Atlantic Cape Community College will continue its Voices and Votes speaker series 3 p.m. June 6 with a virtual talk by Sybastian Smith titled “Voting While Transgender or Transforming.”

Smith will discuss the challenges transgender individuals face when exercising the right to vote and how these challenges can be overcome. The event is accessible only through Zoom at: https://atlantic-edu.zoom.us/j/98327363446.

Smith is a 39-year-old LGBTQ+ community advocate, activist, Certified Health Educator and Medical Assistant. His goal is to specialize in transgender patients’ affirmative healthcare and addressing public health factors that affect the lives of the Black transgender and non-binary community. He currently serves as Organizing Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality.

This is the fourth discussion in the college’s Voices and Votes speaker series leading up to Atlantic Cape hosting the Smithsonian Institution’s traveling “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America” exhibition at its Mays Landing campus July 11 through Aug. 13.
