Prep Rally Event Gives Atlantic Cape Students a Jump Start on Spring 2023 Semester

MAYS LANDING — With registration for the upcoming Spring 2023 semester less than two weeks away, Atlantic Cape Community College held a two-day Prep Rally on October 25 and October 26 for all current and prospective Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) and Student Support Services (SSS) students.

The event, held on the Mays Landing campus, allowed students to meet with advisors to answer any questions they may have had about classes they still need to take, complete financial aid applications, get one-on-one assistance with guidance counselors and apply for the EOF and SSS. The students in attendance were also treated to free food, giveaways and music.

“This event really helps students get a jump start so that they are ready to register come November 7,” Director of Student Support Services Rashawn Martin said. “By meeting with our staff members, the students can get questions answered and get the tasks done that they need to do.”

Students of all ages, majors and backgrounds took advantage of the services offered at the Prep Rally.

“This is an easy way to get my planning done for the next semester and to secure my next move with my advisor,” said Eduardo “Eddie” Jimenez, a sophomore Academy of Culinary Arts student from Atlantic City. Jimenez, who works full-time as a main kitchen prep at the Knife and Fork Inn in Atlantic City, hopes to graduate in 2023 and has a short-term goal of opening his own restaurant while learning about and creating more cuisines.

Katherine Davis, a mother and grandmother from Mays Landing, started taking classes at Atlantic Cape 19 years ago. She recently returned to school and is currently taking three classes and majoring in Business. “I am here to get any help I can get with financial aid,” Davis said. “I am also getting advisement on what classes I should take next.”

Registration for the Spring 2023 semester opens for all students on November 10. Priority registration for returning students is available November 7-9. For more information, visit atlanticcape.edu/register.

Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally-funded program that celebrates, empowers and uplifts students through trips, programs and workshops. The program is for students who are low-income, first-generation college students and/or students with documented disabilities.
